Education That Reaches Beyond the Campus

From soil testing to skill training, VMPKP's knowledge travels to the farms, homes and villages of Palghar.

Community development

Work that is not for the enrolled.

The trust runs a set of programmes for people who are not its students at all: farmers, growers and women in the villages around Asangaon. This is the part of its work it is best known for locally.

Students take part in much of this work — and learn, in the process, what their education is for.

Agriculture initiatives

Modern methods, shared openly.

Free soil testing camps, polyhouse training and post-harvest facilities help farmers across Dahanu and Palghar adopt better practices — alongside the agriculture students of Krishi Tantra Niketan.

Soil & water testing

A laboratory that goes to the field.

The trust’s soil and water testing laboratory is mobile. It travels to villages across Dahanu and Palghar, takes samples from the root zone, and returns nutrient readings with a recommendation the grower can act on: what to add, how much, and when. More than 25,000 farmers have used it.

06

Skill development

Garment manufacturing training for women.

Skill training in cutting, stitching and finishing gives women in the surrounding villages a route into paid work.

07

Rural outreach

Care that reaches the villages.

An ambulance maintained by the trust is made available to the villages around the campus, and free camps take the trust’s services to farmers’ doorsteps.

“Soil & Water Testing Laboratory is one more initiative taken by the organisation for the benefit of the farmers, through which more than 25 thousand farmers have benefited.”
