About the institution

Where the trust began.

Krishi Tantra Niketan is the agriculture polytechnic of V. M. Patil Krushi Pratishthan and the trust’s first institution, established in 2008. It teaches a three-year Diploma in Agriculture affiliated to Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli — the Konkan agricultural university.

It gives the sons and daughters of Dahanu’s farming and tribal families a technical qualification in the work their families already do, and a route beyond subsistence cultivation into agronomy, horticulture and agri-business.

Practical training

Seasons as a syllabus.

Students follow crops through the agricultural calendar — from land preparation and sowing to care, harvest and post-harvest handling.

Working through full seasons builds the judgement that only experience can give.

  • Land preparation
  • Sowing and transplanting
  • Crop care and protection
  • Harvest and post-harvest

Farm facilities

The campus is the laboratory.

Practicals run on the trust’s own land: a working chikoo (sapota) orchard, a nursery, polyhouses, and a cold storage and ripening chamber.

Direct lateral entry is available into the second and third years of the diploma for candidates who qualify.

  • Working chikoo orchard
  • Sumedh Agro Nursery
  • Polyhouses and shade-net
  • Cold storage & ripening chamber

Soil & water laboratory

Reading the land.

The trust’s soil and water testing laboratory is mobile: it travels to villages across Dahanu and Palghar, takes samples from the root zone and returns nutrient readings with a recommendation the grower can act on.

More than 25,000 farmers have used it — and agriculture students learn alongside it.

  • Sample collection
  • Soil analysis
  • Water quality testing
  • Advice for farmers

Polyhouse

Protected cultivation, hands-on.

Protected cultivation under polyhouse and shade-net structures lets growers move into high-value horticulture. The same polyhouses serve student practicals and training for farmers.

Community agriculture

Learning alongside farmers.

The trust’s community work runs alongside the diploma: the mobile soil lab, Sumedh Agro Nursery, polyhouse training and a cold storage and ripening chamber for farmers handling chikoo and other perishables.

Students see agricultural knowledge at work on real farms — and learn from generations of local experience.
